Macular degeneration
6th October 2009

Macular Degeneration is mainly associated with the aging eye. It affects the central part of vision so can make reading and recognising faces difficult, but it never leads to total blindness. Most people over 75 show some signs of macular degeneration. There is a 'Wet' form which begins abruptly and progresses rapidly and there is a 'Dry' form which develops slowly over many years. Until recently there was no treatment but great strides have been made in recent years. You can help yourself by eating a healthy diet and avoiding smoking.
